My brother and sister-in-law have renovated an old spanish property that sits up in the mountains in Andalucia, Spain. It is called El Reguelo.
I went to see it when they first bought it and saw the enormous amount of work my brother had to do. He took one look at it and said: “No problems!” He has knocked down walls, made bedrooms in the attic, built up the ground floor to make a terrace and dip pool.
The terrace looks out at the mountains and the setting evening sun. Towards the edge of the garden is a gentle, trinkling stream.
The old villa over looks a valley known as La Ribera, which is so pretty that years ago a poet wrote about it. Rosario, a local town counsellor told me this but never gave me the poet’s name!
Inside the rooms have been sensitively decorated with antique furniture and my sister-in-law made the soft-furnishings.
You will be met at the property and welcomed in by my family and invited for a drink to one of the local bars in Fuensanta at a time to suit yourselves.
If you want a truly spanish holiday living like the local spanish do, this is the place to go. If you don’t want to stay at the house all the time, then there are plenty of sightseeing trips to National Parks or to beautiful towns like the ancient city of Cordoba or Granada to visit the Alhambra.
Jaen is moments away; well a thirty minute drive looking at the spectacular scenery will seem like moments! Jaen is a city known as the silver city as it shimmers like silver in the sun against the mountains.
I’ve said enough, check it out for yourselves! El Reguelo. Loads of photos, it really is gorgeous!
