Self-help Books by Scott Solder

Who is Scott Solder?

Here is something about him: Scott Solder

But do we really need another Self-Help Book?  That is what BBC Breakfast was asking Scott this morning.

What hit my brain as I heard the BBC report is: Why do people need someone to tell them what to do and how to live their lives?

And of-course The Self-Help Book is about people empowering themselves hence the title Self-Help.

But naturally that is an oxymoron of sorts because the book becomes the voice telling them what to do, which brings me back to my original question: Why do people need someone to tell them what to do and how to live their lives?

I suppose I should read the book to get the point but I probably won’t.  Sorry Scott I know you have worked hard on it.

It is just that when I left a very controlling rule bounded with huge sanctions if I disobeyed religion I wanted to work it out for myself.  Which is what I did.

Someone said to me: Why don’t you work out your own rules?

So I did.

I came up with the 10 Commandments!  I think that most of us would agree wholeheartedly with 9 of them, and then struggle to understand the first one.

The first one: To love the Lord Your God with your whole heart and soul and mind and have no other gods than God.

I think this means:  To love GOOD, to only concentrate on that which is GOOD and not to allow anything else destroy that.

What are other gods?  The love of anything to such an extent it takes away your focus on what GOOD is all about.

What is GOOD?  Everything that God is about.

I translate it this way because it makes sense to me.  God equates with perfect GOOD in my mind, as the epitome of GOOD.

Unfortunately Religions have corrupted that concept and made more rules with sanctions if you disobey.  Hence the idea of a revengeful God.

God is GOOD and LOVE and God does not apply sanctions when we get it wrong.  He is Unconditional and still loves us despite our wrong-doings.

So this New Year, this New Millennium focus on the GOOD in yourself and how to project that in everything you do.  If you need to know how to focus, read the Ten Commandments.

Happy Living and Happy New Year, it is going to be a great one!
